Did you know? Organic Hass avocados are generally available throughout the year. Avocados contain oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat that may help to lower cholesterol. Avocados are a good source of potassium, a mineral that helps regulate blood pressure. One cup of avocado has 23% of the daily recommended value for folate, a nutrient important for heart health.About 75% of an avocado’s calories come from fat, most of which is monounsaturated fat (good fat). Avocados also have 60% more potassium than bananas. They are rich in B vitamins, as well as vitamin E and vitamin K. They have the highest fiber content of any fruit – including 75% insoluble and 25% soluble fibre. When it comes to culinary use the organic avocado is very popular in vegetarian cuisine, making an excellent substitute for meats in sandwiches and salads because of its high good fat content. The fruit is not sweet, but fatty, distinctly yet subtly flavored, and of smooth, almost creamy texture. It is used as the base for the Mexican dip known as guacamole, as well as a filling for several kinds of sushi.
One of the most impressive attributes of the organic avocado is the role it plays in helping the body’s absorption of minerals and nutrients which are present in other plant foods. This is due to the type of fat in avocados. Many nutrients and minerals are fat-soluble and this is where the organic avocado comes into play.
Oh did we mention that they are also beneficial to cardiovascular health, blood sugar control, eye health and cancer prevention.
You don’t just have to eat them. Whip up a nourishing face mask. It could do wonders for your skin.
